Painesville Church of the Brethren helps many outreach and fundraising charities through physical participation and financial offerings. The list below contains some of the outreach ministries we support throughout the year.
Sub Zero Mission
The Sub Zero Mission delivers hats, coats, gloves, boots, sleeping bags, and other warming items to the homeless in Northeast Ohio and other regions during the winter.
Project Hope for the Homeless
Project Hope for the Homeless operates four major programs:
- Adult Shelter– This wing is dedicated to men and women experiencing homelessness. The shelter opens up nightly from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. It also provides outside resources for areas including but not limited to budgeting, housing, job skills, mental health assistance and drug addiction.
- Aftercare – A member of Project Hope for the Homeless’ staff provides support to former guests weekly via phone and in-person visits. This ongoing contact allows us to help our guests maintain success with budgeting, healthy eating, addiction issues and much more.
- Families Moving Forward – A separate wing of the facility designated for men and women with children, that provides a nurturing environment for children to receive the care and guidance they need. It is open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. It also provides outside resources for parents in areas including but not limited to budgeting, housing, job skills, mental health assistance and drug addiction.
- Senior Care – Our Senior Care program was launched in May 2019 and has a 3-unit transitional home offsite called Hope House for people who are age 62 and older. The Senior Care program allows up to three guests at a time to stay for up to three months on a 24/7 basis as they work with our staff to find a stable, safe, and more permanent housing situation.
Forbes House
- Our 24/7 Helpline. Call 440-357-1018 any time of day, every day of the year. A trained advocate will be there to take your call. If you are interested in any of our services, call our helpline and we will connect you to the appropriate individual.
- Our shelter. We provide immediate shelter for individuals in danger due to domestic violence. Clients get the help they need from 24/7 staff in a homey setting.
- Legal Advocacy. Our legal advocates work to support victims of crimes in Lake County’s courts.
- Community Counseling. Anyone who has been affected by domestic violence can make an appointment with at Forbes House.
- Community Support Groups. We hold support groups for Adults and Children off-site on Thursday evenings.
- Prevention and Outreach. Our Community Education team speaks with individuals at schools, jails, businesses, community organizations, health and wellness fairs, and everywhere else to help stop domestic violence.
- Aftercare. Once our clients stop utilizing our services, they do not leave our orbit of care. We provide aftercare for clients as long as they need our assistance.
Inspiration Hills Camp
Established in 1966, Inspiration Hills Camp is a set-apart place that promotes awareness of the interdependence of people, nature and God in a community setting. We are one of the many ministries of the Northern Ohio Church of the Brethren and we provide a sanctuary where kids and adults of all ages can grow in their faith and create community.
Children's Disaster Services
Since 1980 Children’s Disaster Services (CDS), a program of Brethren Disaster Ministries, has been meeting the needs of children by setting up child care centers in shelters and disaster assistance centers across the nation. Specially trained to respond to traumatized children, volunteers provide a calm, safe and reassuring presence in the midst of the chaos created by tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and any natural or human-caused disaster.
Hannah's Home
Hannah’s Home is a maternity home for single pregnant young women ages 18 and over. They provide a safe nurturing environment designed to provide the strength and encouragement needed to face the future in positive ways. Their program will help pregnant women to set goals, learn life skills, continue an education, pursue employment, prepare for childbirth and plan for the future.
Heifer International
Heifer International donates life-sustaining domesticated farm animals to area in need. Giving an animal is like giving someone a small business, providing wool, milk, eggs and more. Animal donations can provide families a hand up, increasing access to medicine, school, food and a sustainable livelihood.
Hearts 2 Hands
Hearts 2 Hands is a community focused outreach, whose primary function is to extend God’s love and bless people. Hearts 2 Hands holds community meals, a 10,000lb fresh produce distribution, and a taxable goods distribution.
